Tips for Reading Aloud to your Child(ren):
The Do’s and Don’ts of reading aloud:
Getting Started (Link)

Do’s:
♣ Begin reading to your child(ren) as soon as possible!
♣ Begin with Mother Goose rhymes. By doing this you will stimulate your infant’s language and listening skills.
♣ Start with picture books that contain only a few sentences on the page. Gradually move to books that contain more and more text, fewer pictures, and eventually build to chapter books and novels.
♣ As you read, keep your child(ren) involved by asking, “ What do you think will happen next?”
♣ Father’s should make an extra effort to read to their child(ren).

Don’ts
♣ Don’t read stories that you do not enjoy yourself. Your dislike will show while you are reading, and that defeats the purpose.
♣ Don’t overwhelm your listener(s).
♣ Don’t be fooled by awards!
♣ Don’t be unnerved by questions during the reading.
♣ If you are choosing a novel to read aloud, avoid books that are heavy with dialogue.
